  Salmons

El Golfo has invested heavily in setting up mussel farms on the shores of Chiloé, where the tidal waters offer the best conditions for mussel farming.

A total area of 160 hectares (320 acres) yields about 15.000 tons of mussels per year.

Working together with local producers we have implemented a Seed Monitoring Programme through which we help them to bring their spat production techniques up to our high standards of quality. This joint work allows us to get from them a steady supply of good quality spat.

The mussel farm is located at Quinchao, central Chiloé, and our processing plant, which has a 100-ton daily output is located at Chonchi, on the central-eastern shores of the isle.

That is how Individually Quick Frozen (IQF) mussel meat, IQF mussels on the half shell and vacuum packed full mussels reach the world from the ocean shores of Southern Chile.
